Starting with the development of the business brand through to the website development, the project included the identity design, company image, messaging, writing, design system, website development, the components for the company's online presence, and brand guidelines. The project also included strategies for the maintenance of the site, and to continually strengthen the online visibility of the website.
Building the foundation of the brand included the development of the value, differentiators, and competitive advantage, applied to the writing and messaging. The foundational elements also included the company’s process, methodology, expertise, understanding of technology, and the understanding of the threats their clients' face. The developed architecture helped structure these ingredients, and develop them into the messaging, writing, and written content, as well as the positioning of the company in their industry.
The Creative Process
In the creative process, exploring photography as the business image was being designed and the messaging written enabled these ingredients to work as one…establishing the tone and feel of the creative. This approach ensures imagery, graphics, typography, messaging, writing, and photography works as one, as they are core ingredients of a business brand.
“In choosing the photography, the visual concept conveyed core elements of the brand, namely the “Journey” and “Navigation”, with the elements of the brand conveyed in the messaging and writing, aided by the typography and graphics.”
The chosen photos all share concept, style, tone, feel, and composition, to ensure consistency in all usage and developed materials. The photographs helped establish an optimistic feel, choosing positivity over negativity. This was a different creative approach usually found in businesses who offer similar services.
Using the established business and brand architecture, the writing, messaging, and visuals were further developed. The writing incorporated the company’s value, differentiators, and competitive advantage, with the architecture used to structure these ingredients within the written content. Working with the visual concept and conveyed through the photography, the writing reflected exploration, navigation, and vision, further conveyed through the choice in typefaces.
Working with the established visual concept, the logo and brand identity system was designed. The logo represented journey, navigation, and vision, incorporating the elements of a compass and telescope to convey that. The logo was then used to create the identity system, including the secondary logo, logotype, icons, and wordmark. In choosing the typefaces of the visual brand, the typefaces reflected the visual concept and strengthened the messaging. Developed design guidelines for the visual brand had defined the usage of the primary logo, secondary logo, icons, and other components in the identity system. As part of the visual brand development, statements and messaging were developed into graphics to work in layouts, and are key elements of the visual brand.
With the identity designed, writing further written, and photographs chosen, the visual concept was developed into the company image and built as layouts. The company image was created to be responsive to all sizes and ratios, while keeping the visual brand consistent. The company image was developed into layouts for communications, marketing, and the design of the website, with design guidelines ensuring the company image is consistent in all layouts and uses.
Designed from the established image and business brand, the website was planned and developed. The development included the design, writing, and build, with a focus on the structure of content in the site to strengthen the business value as the visitor navigates deeper into the site. Through layout and design, the site was responsive to all devices, using layout principles, design language, flexible graphic elements, and the usage of space to achieve that result. As with the visual brand and company image, the typography played an essential role in the look and feel of the site. Working with the photography, the typography helped to deliver an intended feel, as did the graphics. Because the messaging is so essential to the business value, it was a core visual ingredient of the website, working as one with the photography and the design.
